Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Weighted Blankets – American Sleep Association

What is your history with weighted blankets?

Weighted blankets were first recommended to us by our occupational therapists when two of our children received autism diagnoses.  Our insurance, we were told, would cover them but it could take a while.  In an effort to expedite any restful properties they could assist with, Ryne made two of them on her own.  Still waiting on the blanket from the insurance company, a friend asked for two for her grandchildren.  After completing those, two more went out to Justin and another Marine who were deployed at the time.

Once we saw the price tag on the blankets that came from the insurance coverage, we decided to do our best to keep our blankets as low in price as possible to make them more affordable to everyone.  Our pricing listed may seem comparable to the larger companies but if you follow us on social media, inquire with us, you’ll find different specials occur most weeks.

We started making blankets in January 2017.  As of January 1, 2020, we have sent 173 blankets to new homes to provide comfort to others.  We coordinate with one of the best psychologists in Southern California as well as one of the best occupational therapists in Southern California.  You can find our weighted products in both of their offices for their patients to utilize.

Please read through our FAQ.  Feel free to contact us with any additional questions or to place an order.

What is a weighted blanket? Why do people use them?

A weighted blanket is a heavy blanket that provides a treatment called “deep touch pressure”.  This deep touch pressure encourages the release of hormones in the body to relax or rest.

What materials are used to make your blankets?  What makes up the “weight”?

We use any combination of cotton, flannel, and minky fabrics to create the outside of the blanket.  The blanket is filled with poly-fill and hypoallergenic heat resistant beads (this allows them to go in the dryer!). Be sure to see our page on selecting a blanket for some insight on the options for your blanket.

Are weighted blankets safe for everyone?

The American Sleep Association discusses a few ailments in which a doctor should be consulted prior to purchasing a weighted blanket.  These ailments include:

  • Sensitivity to temperature changes
  • Chronic heart conditions
  • Circulation issues
  • Respiratory issues/disease
  • Menopause

We do not make weighted blankets for infants (although we would be happy to make a weightless custom baby blanket for your sweet baby).  We encourage all of our customers read the article from the American Sleep Association (linked at the top of the page) and remind you to select an appropriate weight for your blanket.

How do I care for my blanket?

Our blankets are machine washable and dry-able.  In fact, we wash our own weekly.  We recommend washing them on a bedding cycle and drying them on low heat.  One of our customers recommends putting them in the dryer every night before you head to bed when it’s cold outside!

Do I pay for my blanket up front?

We offer split payments for blankets.  A 50% deposit is required to gather the materials and start the blanket.  When the blanket is finished, the remaining balance is due prior to delivery/shipment.

Due to the fact that materials are customized, deposits on cancelled orders are nonrefundable.

To take advantage of our payment plan, contact us with your blanket selection to request an invoice.

What is the turnaround time for my blanket?

Most of the time, blankets are completed 3 – 4 weeks after the initial deposit is received.  During our busy Christmas rush, it could take an additional week or so.  We stop taking Christmas orders in early November to make sure everyone has their gifts on time.

Can you hold my blanket if I cannot pay my balance when the blanket is completed?

Due to the number of orders we receive, we have limited space to store completed blankets.  We will hold blankets for 90 days after we inform you the blanket has been completed.

Where do you ship?

We ship blankets anywhere in the United States and to APO/FPO addresses.
